Time Through the Eyes of a Lens and Words from a Scattered Mouth.

Dear Arizona,

Young Folk – Peter, Bjorn & John. Sand creatures. Inhale exhale, the sun just set. Close your eyes, get in the tent, the storm is coming, the storm just went. Fleet Foxes while the car spins through stars.

The first day the snow came down and covered everything so fully the entire world could have stopped and turned pale. They told us not to go to school, so we unpacked our bags of our books and played like children.

When I’m Small – Phantogram. Pause breathe freeze.
Before the trees began to fall (The Old Days – Dr. Dog) and before the power went out. Before the ground was covered in thrown snowballs and frantically-made angels. Before it was so deep it crept into our knee-high boots. Just the beginning of Snow Week '12.

Before and After. Before: staying up all night in the forest with Keegan before he flew back home. Coffee at an hour of the night coffee is usually not consumed. A Little Bit – Lykke Li. Driving to SeaTac airport and the lights of the freeway and the city below looking like stars. I am Young – Coconut Records.
After: Say My Name – Destiny’s Child. The sun rose as we drove back to Olympia. Getting breakfast. Halo – Beyonce. Finding Coco’s wallet, waking up Cora, climbing into bed and letting out delirious truths.

Right Now. Heartbeats – The Knife. The sun has been out lately. Wearing a skirt and doing my chores. Drinking my coffee (which has now gone cold, are you surprised, Arizona?). Finding beautiful covers on the internet by fantastic musicians of already fantastic songs. I’m trusting the signs of the universe and trusting the now. Missing the desert but loving Oly with my all the space in my rib cage. The group may go to Portland next weekend. I need to fold my laundry. Yesterday I laid out in the grass in a sleeve-less dress and soaked up the sun after a night of dancing. (Then watched Drop Dead Gorgeous with Sydney. Thanks for showing me all of those terrible late 90s comedies, big sister. She loved it and I re-loved it.)

I send my love out to you, home of my roots.
-E.

  1. this is the sort of work that I most enjoy; photo and words
beginning to assume shapes of an organic whole.
I can start to see a graphic work on music, much more polished of course, that can impart basic knowlege in this way.
    very nice!
